Icicles like daggers

Day 17: Change Of Plans

Check out the view from above our bed today

Just another pretty day in paradise. Only 3 inches of new snow, so nothing major. Our wheels could have easily rolled off the driveway, if we wanted them to. Today was the 17th day of “goin’ nowhere”. Turns out, we’re quite content, staying put. There are no signs of agoraphobia. We’re just good with what we’ve got here.

Restocking items from the dairy and produce aisle has become my desire of late. Today, I realized that by not having those items, we’ve gotten more creative. For lunch I doctored up a frozen pizza with dehydrated red and green peppers, dried mushrooms and Italian seasonings. It was delish! I even managed to double our milk supply by mixing the milk we have left with powdered milk and water. Wa-la, our coffee will continue to be tan rather than black.

We really do have it all: hot water (something my son in downtown Birmingham has been without for a while now), lots of frozen veggies, meat and many boxes of wine. Heck, we’ve got what most of you don’t; plenty of time to be with the one we love most on this planet. My daughter and son-in-law work so many hours, they rarely have time to enjoy each other. Sometimes I feel guilty for having so much.

After I got back from my mail retrieval hike, I asked Lance if he thought we could make it till March 9th before going into town. That wouldn’t meet our recent aspirations (only going to town once a month), but it would push us out to 26 days of  “goin’ nowhere”. We hadn’t planned on attaining the one month sabbatical quite yet. Why March 9th? Well, the Costco coupons that came in the mail today don’t start till March 8th. AND, Lance and I actually met on March 9th (a few years ago), so an anniversary lunch in town sounds phun. Yup, we’re THAT practical and romantic here in the wilderness! I’ll letcha know how it goes.
