Day 24: Still, Going Nowhere

When I mentioned to my sister that today was the 24th day of us not going anywhere, she said:

We don’t even go 24 hours without getting in a car, let alone 24 days!!

Sure I walk to the mailbox every day or take a hike to the top of the mountain behind us. Why, just this past Monday, Lance walked down to the neighbors to help them with their computer problems and raid their DVD stash. We’re not hermits. We’re just quite content to stay put for weeks at a time.

Being away from it all is quite therapeutic. In fact, my wood chopping gal-pal says I’m too relaxed to be able to chop wood good. She works in a bank. Apparently, she takes out her frustrations at night by whacking logs with her maul (<-new tool word for me. It’s been added to our shopping list). Lance suggested I needed steel-toed boots next time I attempt to chop wood. (What I hear is- NEW SHOES FOR MARE).

We admit, we are out of touch with the mainstream media. When I looked at the list of movies nominated for an Academy Award, I had not heard of most of them. Hey, if I can’t put it into my Netflix Queue, it doesn’t exist to me. We often don’t know what day of the week it is, either. I had a friend in Birmingham who would randomly email me to let me know what day it was (thank you BD).

My Facebook friends keep me filled in on the news that doesn’t matter. Sure I’m sad Whitney Houston and Davy Jones died. They’re not super-humans. They got old, too. What did capture my attention was when a healthy, 43 year old reporter, Andrew Breitbart, died of ‘natural causes’. This youtube video about other deaths may be stretching things a little, or maybe not. Only God knows. I’m not sure I want to know.

Surely, I would fail any celebrity pop quiz about who’s pregnant, engaged or divorcing. I am somewhat intrigued by who’s had plastic surgery. As I grow older I miss how I use to look. I am comforted to see how bad ancient celebrities near my age look. Especially after they’ve had plastic surgery. It is so bizarre that they think they look better. It’s a crazy world out there, people – in many ways.

Maybe the world thinks Lance and I are the wacky ones. I’ve never wanted to be like everyone else. Or have I? I want to be healthy, happy, content and at peace. Check √√√√ ! I’d also like to be young, rich and have a killer bod. But the previous list suits me just fine. It’s a gorgeous sunny day (I think it’s Wednesday) here in northern Idaho. Why would we want to get in the car and miss out on all these glorious rays?

If a productive day can be measured by how dirty your shirt gets, yesterday was a success.
