Is Today Saturday?

That’s what I just heard Lance ask Kirk downstairs.

I joke that we we need one of those clocks that show the day of the week, cause we’re never really sure. Nevertheless, it was a gorgeous, sunny, fall day. I cleaned windows and the wood burning stove. Check out the view from our upstairs office.

Growing up, Saturdays meant good cartoons. When my kids were little, it meant we didn’t have to rush off to school and got to hang out in our jammies all morning. I recall enjoying Saturdays when there were big football games. That’s when I’d go shopping, less crowds at the stores. When you’re semi-retired (a nicer way of saying unemployed), every day feels like Saturday. I tend to like Facebook less on Saturdays (too much – ‘Our team rox, your team sux’).

Lance was excited about his project, adding a lower deck. He’s never built one ‘from scratch’, but he has repaired more than his share of old decks. He was pretty stoked to build from the ground up. The plan is to connect the current deck to the wood shed and then eventually to the outdoor kitchen. This will be a tremendous help hauling in logs all winter. Check out his progress (night fell, so he didn’t get to complete).

I took yet another hike to retrieve the mail, no shortcuts today, I decided to enjoy the predictable. Here sits the hodgepodge row of mailboxes, ours is the biggest :-D. Feel free to write me, that way I won’t be walking back empty-handed, or worse, with just bills.

Just down from the mailbox is the neighborhood T-dock. This is where we go fishing (and Brewskie goes swimming).

My walk home (not empty-handed, but with Netflix in tow), the sky was a gorgeous blue, sprinkled with clouds and streaked with contrails.

Are you bored yet? Well, I marvel at how a simple walk to get the mail or a hike up the hill behind us can bring such contentment. Check out what the road to the top of the street looks like in the fall…

As I ascend the gravel road leading up the mountain, I could hear the purr of chain saws as some neighbors add to their woodpile. I’m a wee bit surprised that my hike to the top goes so fast, I don’t even remember huffing or puffing. Could I be getting in shape (2 months later)? Nah, I musta been distracted by the gorgeous views.

Headed back down the hill to home, I’m greeted with a different view of our little house and big arse pole barn. THIS was Kirk’s project for today, he cut down some more shrubs and trees.

Another nice day, no matter which day of the week it is. Lance has got a roaring fire going (I’m too lazy to go snap a photo) and Kirk went into town for a ‘dance’. Hmmm, can’t wait to hear about that (maybe I should’ve sent the camera!).
Toodles faithful readers, until we meet via blog again.
